Professional Research Paper on the Effects of Meditation on the Brain is Accepted into "Nuclear Medicine Communications"
Dr. Daniel Amen, M.D., Dharma Singh Kalsa at the Alzheimer's Prevention Research Foundation in Arizona, and Dr. Andrew Newberg at the University of Pennsylvania are pleased to announce that their study on the effects of meditation on the brain has been accepted into the "Nuclear Medicine Communications" journal, which is a premiere journal in the field of nuclear medicine. This is wonderful news and continues to help spread the word about brain imaging and the use of tools such as meditation to enhance brain function. Below is an abstract of the study: Kirtan Kriya Meditation and High Resolution Brain SPECT ImagingDharma Singh Khalsa M.D., Daniel Amen M.D., Chris Hanks Ph.D., Andrew NewbergObjective: To examine differences in the brain physiology during Kirtan Kriya meditation using SPECT imaging. Method: Resting and meditation scans were acquired in eleven subjects. Statistical parametric mapping analyses were conducted to identify significant changes in cerebral blood flow. Results: Significant rCBF increases in the right-temporal lobe and posterior cingulate gyrus, and significant rCBF decreases in the left parieto-temporal and occipital gyri. Conclusions: The results offer evidence that this form of meditation changes brain function in a way that is consistent with the positive clinical outcomes observed in its users.

50,400 and Counting...
This month, the Amen Clinics reached an incredible milestone, surpassing
50,000 brain scans. Back in 1991, when Dr. Amen ordered his first SPECT
brain scan, he had no idea it would become the cornerstone of his
practice. Quickly, however, he realized that seeing patients' brains
allowed him to better diagnose and treat them so they could overcome a
variety of problems, such as attention deficit disorder (ADD),
depression, anxiety, anger, brain trauma, and addictions. Because of
his utilization of SPECT imaging, Dr. Daniel Amen has also been able to enhance creativity, energy, focus, and overall effectiveness for our patients.
For many years now, the Amen Clinics have had the world's largest
database of SPECT brain scans related to human behavior, and Dr. Amen is
looking forward to helping thousands more people change their brains to
change their lives.
